Unintentionally Going For The Gold

Award winning wine

Who doesn’t love award winning wine? The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is one of the largest and most prestigious wine competitions in the United States. Started in 1983, the competition has grown over the years and now attracts thousands of entries from wineries across North America. The competition is held annually in January, and the winners are announced in February.

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is unique in that it is open to all North American wine producers, including those from Canada and Mexico. The competition includes several categories, such as red wine, white wine, sparkling wine, and dessert wine. There are also categories for specific varietals, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Each year, the competition is judged by a panel of experts, including winemakers, sommeliers, and wine writers. The judges evaluate each wine based on its aroma, flavor, texture, and overall quality. The wines are tasted blind, which means that the judges do not know the identity of the producer or the price of the wine.

The winners of the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition are recognized as some of the best wines in North America. Winning a medal at the competition can be a significant achievement for a winery, as it can help to increase exposure and sales. The competition also provides consumers with a guide to some of the top wines in the region, making it easier for them to make informed purchasing decisions.

For the very first time, Mission Peak Wine entered five wines into this competition. All five placed – 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals. Winning any placement would have been an honor in this prestige competition.

In addition to recognizing the best wines in North America, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition also helps to promote the wine industry in the region. The competition attracts thousands of wine enthusiasts each year, many of whom travel to San Francisco to attend the public tasting event. This event provides consumers with the opportunity to sample some of the top wines in the region and to meet the winemakers behind them.

Overall, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is an important event in the North American wine industry. It helps to recognize the best wines in the region, promote the industry, and provide consumers with a guide to some of the top wines available. Whether you are a wine enthusiast or a winemaker, the competition is definitely worth paying attention to.
